Platform compatibility & support

ShowNotes uses a documented macOS API to exclude its window from screen capture. Here's how it works with every major screen-sharing platform.

Zoom

One setting needed

ShowNotes is hidden from share on Zoom 6.16 and older with no setup. Newer versions of Zoom introduced a capture mode that can see content-protected windows unless you flip one toggle.

If you're running Zoom 6.17 or later, enable Advanced capture with window filtering in Zoom's settings. This tells Zoom to respect the macOS content protection flag that ShowNotes relies on.

Setup instructions for Zoom 6.17+

  1. Open Zoom and go to Settings (gear icon).
  2. Navigate to Share Screen (or Screen Share in some versions).
  3. Scroll down to Advanced.
  4. Enable "Advanced capture with window filtering".
  5. Restart Zoom if prompted.
  6. Start a test meeting and share your screen. ShowNotes should now be invisible.

Google Meet

Verified hidden

Hidden from share. Google Meet uses standard macOS screen capture APIs that respect the content protection flag. No setup needed.

This applies to both "A tab" and "Your entire screen" sharing modes in Chrome, as well as the Google Meet desktop app. We've verified this across all sharing modes.

Microsoft Teams

Window share recommended

ShowNotes is hidden when you share a specific window in Teams on macOS. This is the recommended sharing mode.

Entire-screen share may show the panel on some configurations. Since ShowNotes is macOS-only, this mainly affects edge cases — but choosing window share avoids it entirely.

Recommended setup

  1. When sharing in Teams, choose "Window" instead of "Entire Screen" when possible.
  2. Select the specific application window you want to share (e.g., your slide deck or browser).
  3. ShowNotes will remain invisible throughout your presentation.

Cisco WebEx

Verified hidden

Hidden from share. WebEx respects macOS content protection flags in all sharing modes. No setup needed.

Verified on the latest WebEx desktop client for macOS. ShowNotes stays hidden whether you share your entire screen or a specific window.

Slack Huddle

Verified hidden

Hidden from share. Slack Huddle screen sharing uses standard macOS capture APIs and respects content protection. No setup needed.

Verified on the latest Slack desktop app for macOS.

FaceTime

Not compatible

ShowNotes will be visible in FaceTime. FaceTime uses a capture method that bypasses the macOS content protection flag ShowNotes relies on.

If you need ShowNotes hidden during a call, use one of the compatible platforms listed above instead.
